GSMS opens Green and Sustainable Membranes — call for inaugural submissions
The Green and Sustainable Materials Society is pleased to announce the opening of Green and Sustainable Membranes (GSMb), an international peer-reviewed open-access journal dedicated to sustainable and energy-efficient membrane technologies. Submissions are now being accepted for the inaugural issue, with the journal committed to publishing high-quality research that advances membrane science in support of a more circular and resilient future.
GSMb welcomes original research, comprehensive reviews, short communications, and technical notes spanning the full membrane technology pipeline. The journal's scope includes the design and fabrication of sustainable membrane materials, separation processes for water treatment and desalination, gas separation, membrane performance in energy applications, and circular-economy approaches to membrane recycling and end-of-life management. Particular attention is given to research advancing membrane science in Indonesia and across the Global South.
Membrane technologies underpin much of the infrastructure that modern societies depend on — from clean water access to low-energy industrial separations and emerging decarbonization pathways. As demand grows for water, energy, and materials efficiency, the need for membranes that are themselves manufactured, operated, and disposed of sustainably has become pressing. GSMb provides a dedicated venue for this work, connecting membrane researchers with the broader sustainability and circular-economy communities.
All submissions undergo single-blind peer review with a minimum of two qualified reviewers. Accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, ensuring free access, reuse, and redistribution. The journal is operated on the Revise.id publishing platform with DOIs registered through Crossref (prefix 10.62755) and metadata harvested via OAI-PMH for broad discoverability.
To lower barriers for researchers and accelerate the dissemination of sustainable membrane science, article processing charges are waived for all submissions accepted to the first three volumes. The editorial board aims for a first decision within four to six weeks of submission, and from submission to publication within an average of twelve weeks. Authors retain copyright and can deposit preprints, accepted manuscripts, or final published versions in institutional repositories without embargo.
Prospective authors can submit manuscripts through the GSMS submission portal at submit.revise.id. Journal homepage, scope details, and upcoming issues are available at pubs.greensus.org/gsmb.
