Introducing Green and Sustainable Membranes: A New Journal for Sustainable Separation Technologies

The Green and Sustainable Materials Society (GSMS) is pleased to announce the launch of Green and Sustainable Membranes, a cutting-edge new journal that will publish novel and globally relevant original research on all aspects of membrane science and engineering for sustainable applications.

Green and Sustainable Membranes will focus on advances in membrane materials, design, fabrication, characterization, and process development that address critical challenges in water and wastewater treatment, resource recovery, energy and environmental separations, and circular-economy solutions—encompassing experimental studies, pilot and field demonstrations, as well as computational and modeling work.

“We are delighted to welcome Januar Widakdo, Ph.D., as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Green and Sustainable Membranes,” said the GSMS Publications Division. “Dr. Widakdo has both the expertise and the vision to establish this journal at the forefront of innovation in membrane materials and sustainable separation technologies. With membrane-based solutions becoming increasingly central to clean water, low-carbon processes, and pollution control, this journal is a timely and vital addition to the GSMS publishing portfolio.”

Dr. Januar Widakdo, Ph.D., is a researcher from Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia.

“Green and Sustainable Membranes launches at a time when global needs for clean water, efficient separations, and low-energy treatment technologies are accelerating—driven by climate pressures, emerging contaminants, resource constraints, and rapid industrial transitions,” said Dr. Widakdo.

“The journal will serve as a premier forum for researchers across disciplines to share their most significant findings, advance membrane science, and accelerate translation into real-world solutions. I am honored to serve as the founding Editor-in-Chief, and I am excited to build Green and Sustainable Membranes into a trusted, high-impact home for the membrane community.”
